   Environmental

Professionals in this area typically have bachelors or advanced degrees in Geology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Engineering although individuals with social science backgrounds can be successful. The focus of AllWest's consulting practice is assisting participants in the real estate industry understand risk associated with soil, soil gas, and groundwater contamination.

Staff level work consists of assisting in the preparation of Phase I Environmental Assessments advancing through project managing Subsurface Investigations. Project and Senior Project Manager are typically registered professionals (geologist, hydrologists, engineers) that conduct and oversee environmental compliance audits, soil and groundwater investigations, remedial investigations, remedial efforts and environmental and human health risk assessments. Typical projects are noted the Project Highlights section of our website. The attainment of a professional designation, such as P.E., R.G. (Registered Geologist), CHHM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) is highly encouraged.

   Industrial Hygiene

The focus of AllWest's consulting practice in this area is assisting building owners and others involved in property management address Asbestos, Lead Based Paint and Microbiological (mold/mildew) issues. Professionals in this area typically have a college degree in either science or social sciences or a first hand understanding of construction.

Staff level work consists of assisting in the preparation of Asbestos and Lead Based Paint Assessments advancing through field experience monitoring both lead and asbestos abatement projects. Project and Senior Project Managers retain professional designation as either a Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC), Certified Site Surveillance Technician (CSST) and/or DOHS Lead Inspector. Professional registration is required prior to advancing to the project manager level. Registered Professionals (CAC, CSST, DOHS Lead) conduct and oversee asbestos and lead assessments, develop abatement specifications and manage people and projects.    Engineering

The focus of AllWest's consulting practice in this area is assisting participants in the real estate industry understand the positive and negative physical attributes associated with owning and managing real property. Integral to this are structural evaluations of buildings and their likely response to anticipated seismic events. A smaller element of the work is the review of construction budgets and monitoring draw dispersements requests on behalf of a lender. Professionals in this practice area hold degrees in either engineering or architecture and have a minimum of 5 years experience.

Staff level work consists of providing qualitative evaluations of building systems and providing physical needs assessments for immediate and long term capital expenditures. Senior level work involves the remediation of issues identified in the initial assessments including seismic upgrades.

   Principal

Becoming a shareholder of AllWest is a function of demonstrated abilities within the firm's practice areas, business development skills and leadership abilities. While AllWest has no minimum eligibility requirements we generally would expect aspiring principals to be with the firm for 3 years with 10 years in the industry and hold a professional designation. Marketing and sales are key components of a principal's responsibilities. We anticipate that close to 20% of the work day will be spent on developing business. Individuals are considered principals at AllWest when they purchase 4% of company stock.
